ViewCast
UX Design Web App Proposal for an online platform with up-to-date TV shows and user-generated videos
__
ViewCast is a fictional video content provider on the scale of Netflix, YouTube and most television networks. As a direct competitor, it's an online repository of video content that is up-to-date combined with user-generated videos themed by the genre.

BRIEF
There is a need for a functional website for ViewCast where users can enjoy a significant amount of hours and they only pay for programming they consume without commercial breaks.
Delivery - Stream high-quality content, multiple video streams simultaneously, to whatever device they are using / Search for content based on user input / Create, store and retrieve video playlists
Membership - Sign up & sign in / Review your status / Opt-in for advertising
Community - Social connections to other members / Social connections to non-member friends / Social connections to other media (eg Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest)
Distribution deals and costs are not a concern for this project.
CHALLENGE
The scale of the project made it impossible to address the entire scope of requirements. What was important is how to make the user-generated component fit into the grand scheme. Why would a user choose to start using ViewCast to share their content rather than its competitor sites? and How do we separate out the high-quality user-generated content so it's not lost in non-relevant personal videos?

DELIVERABLES
The project was rolled out to included a comparative analysis, UX strategy brief, functionality requirements, personas, user flows, site maps and wireframes for a responsive web design solution.
My research revelated that ViewCast is a good option for the market because it largely combines the services that Netflix and Shomi provides.
Key Results:
- Powerful landing interface with a personalized approach (attract new users)
- Universal account (independent of geographical region with access to the same library content)
- Effective search tool that yields highly customized results (quick and easy access to content)
- Community (share content)
- Opt-in advertising
PERSONAS
The target users for ViewCast are people between the ages of 18-35. They are young professionals in love with technology and social media, interested in watching the latest content on the market as well as be able to share what they like and invite their friends or other members to join the platform and get feedback.
The following primary personas were identified as representative of the most populous target segments, and will guide choices made during the design process:
